How to open a port in Windows XP Firewall

Port Forwarding - Windows XP Firewall
How to let a port through your Windows XP firewall!

Okay. Well, someone had this question on another thread so I answered it. Since I took the time to take the pictures I figured I would throw this up in it's own thread anyways. It's a very specific tutorial. It's not quite port forwarding, but once you've done all the port forwarding things sometimes you have to add the port to your firewall. Often times windows is smart enough to ask you if you want to open the port when it senses a program attempting to listen on the port. But in case you didn't get that courtesy. Here ya go....

Step 1
Open Windows Control Panel.

Step 2
Click on Windows Firewall.

Step 3
Click on the Exceptions Tab

Step 4
Click Add Port

Step 5
Type in a name that means something to you. It's not important.
Now type in the port number.
Be sure to check TCP or UDP. If you are not sure just stick with TCP.

Click OK and you're done.
