How to Disable the Windows Login Screen

Introduction

In this tutorial you will learn how to set your computer to either show a simple login screen or automatically login for you. Follow either of the steps below depending on which setting you desire.

Step One - Simple Login Screen

If you wish to replace the Windows XP’s login screen with a simple username and password dialog follow this step.

First, click on your computers Start Menu.

Left Click on Settings and select Control Panel.

Double click on the User Accounts icon.

Now, select the button entitled, “Change the way users log on or off.”

Uncheck the check box called, “Use the Welcome Screen.”

Click the Apply Button and exit the User Accounts dialog.

Restart your computer.

Step Two - Automatic Login

If you wish your computer to automatically login to your desired user account follow this step.

First, click on your computers Start Menu and select the Run button.

Either type or paste in the following command:

control userpasswords2

Now, select the user account you wish Windows to automatically login to.

Once you have selected your desired user account uncheck the check box entitled, “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.”

Click the Apply button and enter in your username and password.

Restart your computer.
